In the world of beauty care, there is one ingredient that has been prized for centuries for its extraordinary properties – saffron. This precious spice, also known as "red gold," has found a firm place not only in the kitchen but also in natural cosmetics. In this article, we will explore the fascinating effects of saffron in cosmetics and why it might deserve a place in your daily skin care routine.
If you geographically associate saffron with the Middle East or the Mediterranean, you are right – but not exclusively. The small crocus species has a long tradition in Austria – both in terms of cultivation and processing. According to a legend, saffron is said to have arrived in Austria in the 12th century. However, it is documented that the gold of nature was widely cultivated here between the 15th and 19th centuries, so that Austria was even the cultivation center of Central Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. For almost 20 years now, saffron has also been cultivated again in the vineyards of the Nikolaihof and used for my cosmetics.

After the grape harvest, as the last harvest of the year, saffron begins to bloom around mid-November. The strong red stigma threads are then carefully hand-picked from the purple blossoms daily and then dried. To use the noble spice in cosmetics, an extract is made from the dried threads, which can then be used for the formulation of my skincare products.
Effects of saffron on the skin
Saffron is rich in antioxidants that help fight free radicals and protect the skin from premature aging. It also contains anti-inflammatory properties that can help combat redness, which is why I use it in my dieNikolai products for blemishes and for particularly sensitive skin.
Saffron can help to even out skin tone and reduce hyperpigmentation. By stimulating blood circulation in the skin, saffron can help promote an even complexion and minimize the appearance of dark spots and acne scars. Especially in combination with the anti-aging power of grapeseed oil, saffron can help create an even and thus younger-looking complexion. Natural cosmetics containing saffron can help soothe the skin and give it a radiant, youthful appearance.
The use of saffron in cosmetics is not only a tribute to its history but also a wise choice for those who prefer natural superfoods. Saffron offers a variety of benefits that can improve the appearance and health of your skin. If you are looking for a natural and effective way to enhance your beauty routine, saffron could be the golden answer.
Treat yourself to the radiant effects of saffron and let its beauty blossom within you – in the truest sense of the word.
